RVP, Modric, M’villa,Llorente in Transfer Update

Posted: August 15, 2012 in Sports

With the transfer deadline just two weeks away, Tottenham Hotspur chairmain Daniel Levy has come down in his asking price for LUKA MODRIC and will accept Real Madrid’s base offer of €32 million (Marca).

All that remains to be sorted is the bonus payment structure that Madrid will use to get closer to Spurs’ initial valuation of €50 million. The Spanish giants are expected to include easily-attainable targets for Modric that would push the fee closer to €40 million.

Madrid included similar bonuses in order to finalise their acquisition of Angel Di Maria from Benfica in 2010.

Should the Modric deal go through as expected, look for Spurs to use the proceeds of the transfer to fund a move for Rennes midfielder YANN M’VILA.

The London side have already made an initial bid of £11.8 million for the France international (L’Equipe), but Rennes are thought to want upwards of £24 million for the 22-year-old.

M’Vila made 50 appearances for his club in all competitions last season and has also been capped 22 times for France.

Manchester United are closing in on want-away Arsenal striker ROBIN VAN PERSIE.

With United tabling a fresh £22 million offer for the Dutchman on Tuesday, talks between the two Premier League sides went well into the night (Daily Mail).

While Arsene Wenger has been reluctant to seriously entertain any of the offers that have come in for his former captain thus far, the magnitude of United’s offer will likely force his hand. And if not, the Gunners board may force it for him.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to make Barcelona forward CHRISTIAN TELLO his third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Fabio Borini and Joe Allen (Daily Mail).

Tello, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is valued at approximately £7 million and has also attracted interest from the likes of Benfica and Valencia.

A versatile attacker who can play across the forward line, Rodgers sees Tello as the sort of player who fit seamlessly into his stylistic revolution at Anfield.

Having struck out in their attempts to lure Robin Van Persie to Turin, Juventus have turned their attention to Athletic Bilbao striker FERNANDO LLORENTE (Gazzetta dello Sport).

Out of contract next July, Llorente has expressed a desire to leave the Basque giants, and given the 30 goals he scored last season he’ll no doubt attract significant interest ahead of the transfer deadline.

Still, Bilbao are adamant that any team serious about signing the 27-year-old will have to activate his €36 million release clause. Club president Josu Urrutia has admitted he has already received a bid from Juventus, although it fell short of triggering the release.
